Spirituality - Introduction

Our third study will cover the doctrine of Spirituality vs. Carnality.

The primary opposition to these 12 doctrines comes from legalism. Paul warned Galatian believers not to become bewitched (baskaino) by legalistic doctrines. He warned that the result of bewitching would be foolishness (anoetos) [no perception of spiritual truth]. Legalism leads to a spiritual dumbing down of the believer (Gal.3:1-2; 3:3-5).

Two areas of legalistic dumbing down occurring within the churches of south Galatia were salvation by works of Law (Gal.1-2) and spirituality by works of Law (Gal.3-6) – “I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes from the Law; then Christ died needlessly” (Gal.2:21).
